The winners of the 6-hours race in Stein (Netherlands) are Pieter Vermeesch and Conny Braekman. Both from Belgium.
Pieter Vermeesch was able to clinch victory only in the last hour with a final result of 83.962 kms, after sharing the lead the preceding almost 2 hours with final runner-up, Gino Casier, also from Belgium. They both ran with very even pace. Gino however encountered feet problems causing him to slow down somewhat and losing contact in the last hour. Nevertheless, Gino scored excellent 82.688 kms and with that he could hold off the very even pace-running Gert Mertens finishing in third place. Also Gert, with 81.722 kms, topped the 80 km threshold safely.

Best runner from Germany was Rene Strosny (Bautzener LV) finishing in 8th place with 77.895 kms. For the member of the DUV Fördergruppe, Gino Casier, Conny Braekmann, Ulrike Steeger, and René Strosny, this was an excellent kick-off in their preparations for competing in the 100km race of Copenhagen on April 24, 2010.
The DUV Executives were represented by Vice President Dagmar Liszewitz actively on the course, who concluded her preparations for the 7-day race in Athens with a last long run by taking advantage of the 6 hours in Stein.
After this again very well-organized event the awards ceremony for the DUV 6 hours Cup took place. For last year, Conny Braekman and Gino Casier (both from Belgium) were the winners, thereby securing their ticket to be in the DUV Fördergruppe for elite performances.
All results can be found here.
Congratulations to all participants for their performances. All in all a very good start of the first 6 hours event of this year’s DUV 6 hours Cup. Already next weekend, the next race will be on at Nuremberg.
